Safety Hints
Shop Usage
All Classroom rules apply.
1. Always wear eye protection when in the shop.
2. Wear necessary safety equipment for the job.
3. Securely fasten hair.
4. No shorts, open toe shoes, or baggy clothes in the lab.
5. Remove all jewelry; roll up long sleeves passed elbows.
6. Report all injuries to the instructor.
7. No throwing objects at any time.
8. No running.
9. Give machine operators plenty of room. (One arms length)
10. Always use safety guards and check them before starting.
11. Check the machine set-up before starting. Stop the machine before making adjustments.
12. Do not operate a machine if you are tired, under the influence of medication, or have not received instruction and permission to use it.
13. Never leave a machine unattended while it is running, wait for it to come to a complete stop before leaving.
14. Keep your fingers and hands away from moving parts.
15. Never try to clean a machine while it is running.
16. Pay attention to the machine you are operating. Do not look away or talk to others.
17. Always clamp your materials down.
18. Always use a push stick.
19. Never startle someone who is using a tool or machine.
20. Report malfunctions or broken tools to an instructor.
21. Keep your work area clean, have plenty of room to work.
22. Do not carry too much in one trip.
23. Use brooms and vacuums to clean up.
24. Place dirty rags in the dirty rag containers.
25. All people will clean up at the end of the day.
26. No removing tools and materials without instructor's permission.
27. Do not waste any materials or deliberately break tools.
28. Never use a tool or materials as a weapon.
29. Know the location and use of fire extinguishing agents.
30. Know where the power cut-offs are located in the room and how to use them.
31. RETURN ALL TOOLS TO PROPER PLACES!
